Demand for long-term-care and supply-mix in Vienna

BACKGROUND

The project aims to identify patterns of use of care in Vienna based on a series of different assumptions on future developments in the long-term care sector. For that purpose, a number of factors for which data are available are being analyzed.These include information about the type and hours of care used, health status (e.g. level of care need), socio-demographic information (e.g. age, gender), information about socio-economic status (e.g. personal income, district of resi- dence), and contextual factors (e.g. household size, informal carers).

BACKGROUND

Deinstitutionalization can be defined as the move away from treatment in long-stay social institutions with  less isolated community-based alternatives for the support of social care beneficiaries, in the belief that this new service configuration can lead to better quality of life.

Erhebung der Ist-Situation zu Dysphagie in oberösterreichischen Alten- und Pflegeheimen

Die demographische Entwicklung zeigt, dass der Anteil der älteren Bevölkerung und der Hochbetagten in unserer Gesellschaft immer größer wird. Es treten dadurch vermehrt Erkrankungen (Schlaganfall, etc.) auf, welche unter anderem zu einer Dysphagie führen können. Durch die Schluckstörung steigt in weiterer Folge das Risiko einer Mangelernährung.

Zielsetzung dieses Projekts, das durch den Studiengang Diätologie der FH Gesundheitsberufe OÖ durchgeführt wird:

The International Long-term care Policy Network (ILPN) is a network of researchers, policy-makers and other stakeholders which promotes the global exchange of evidence and knowledge on long-term care policy. The biennial ILPN conference aims to bring together participants from academia, policy and practice to exchange new evidence, ideas, policy approaches, innovations and challenges in the field of long-term care.

"Netzwerk Altern" stellt in regelmäßigen Abständen im Rahmen eines thematischen Schwerpunkts Projekte von den PartnerInnen des Netzwerk Altern vor und skizziert kurz deren Ziele und Inhalte. Dabei handelt es sich um die in der Projektdatenbank aufscheinenden Projekte.

Durch die älter werdende Gesellschaft und die damit verbundene steigende Anzahl an Menschen höheren Alters, nimmt die Thematik der Pflege und Betreuung in der österreichischen Sozialpolitik einen zunehmend wichtigen Stellenwert ein:

‘Good Care’ from the perspective of care workers

Background and aims of the study
The Chamber of Labour for Vienna has commissioned the European Centre to undertake an explorative study about how the various categories of professional care workers perceive quality of care. The aims of the study are to identify key-factors of quality in long-term care delivery and potential improvements of working conditions that may hamper or facilitate ‘good care’ in and across the various settings of long-term care provision.

Die Bedeutung von Kennzahlen im Rahmen des Nationalen Qualitätszertifikats (NQZ) / The Role of Performance Indicators in the Context of the Austrian National Quality Certificate

Over the past few years about 40 Austrian care homes have attained a certification according to the Austrian National Quality Certificate. During this process, the assessment of results has reportedly been one of the major challenges for care home managers and for external auditors. These experiences offer an important basis for identifying and assessing the utilisation of performance indicators by care homes.
