Data mapping for the Joint Programming Initiative 'More Years, Better Lives' - Fast-track JPI project

AIMS

The Austrian Ministry of Science and Research commissioned a data mapping project in the context of the Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) “More Years, Better Lives” which aims to enhance the understanding of opportunities and challenges of demographic change. The objective of this Fast-Track JPI ‘More Years, Better Lives’ project is to describe and assess currently available data sources used for identifying demographic change. This includes the recognition of data gaps. The data map informs future research agendas as well as data agencies that have not always considered the implications of ageing societies in data collection. As a whole, the JPI data mapping project seeks to inform the development of the Strategic Research Agenda of the European Union. The JPI ‘More Years, Better Lives’ is an initiative of Member States to enhance better coordination between European and national research programmes. Maria M. Hofmarcher is nominated national liaison person in the Scientific Work Group which is led by Prof. James W. Vaupel and which held its first meeting in Berlin on 28 January 2013.
