The conference "Imaginaries and Strategies for Good Care and Good Housing in Times of Transformation" will take place at Vienna University of Economics and Business from May 23rd to 24th 2024.

Care and housing are key provisioning systems, intertwined and co-constitutive. They contribute to sustaining livelihoods and are foundational for human flourishing. Care, on the one hand, is not restricted to one’s own place of living, but shapes and is shaped by spatial relations in specific localities or transnational networks. Care and care work is provided in a specific built environment with different configurations of housing, depending on appropriate infrastructures, including buildings, retail, green and leisure facilities. Housing, on the other hand, is always entangled with care – not only for others, but also for one’s own habitation, the residential environment, and local communities. As it offers the material place for diverse reproductive activities, the care (work) taking place in the respective spaces is disarrayed when housing becomes unaffordable or precarious. In addition, how neighbourhoods are developed, and how other key provisioning systems (mobility, health, food, energy, etc.) are organised, decisively influences the capabilities of residents to give and receive care and to shape the respective environment by ‘doing housing’. Last but not least, the provision of care and housing are both closely entangled with specific society-nature relations that enable more or less reciprocal, just, and sustainable practices of doing care and housing. In the ongoing social-ecological, geopolitical, and digital transformations care and housing are decisive but contested terrains for shaping new arrangements of organizing livelihoods. As multiple crises escalate, it becomes increasingly harder to ensure human flourishing without exacerbating mechanisms of exclusion or transgressing planetary boundaries. Currently, diverse struggles unfold about reinforcing or changing existing forms of provisioning, (dis-)empowering actors – be it as residents, workers, care-receivers and givers, family members or migrants. It is, thus, urgent to identify pathways to develop and shape ongoing transformations in an inclusive and sustainable way. While profound change is unavoidable, collective actors in the 21st century have to explore new imaginaries as well as strategies to actualize such visions. This includes struggles over private and public spaces, about transforming private practices as well as forms of collective agency.

On 29 April, the European Day of Solidarity between Generations will celebrate its 15th edition. Initiated by AGE, the day shines a light on intergenerational practices and the need for promoting a “culture” of intergenerational dialogue and cooperation in an increasingly polarised society.

The Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law of the KU Leuven is organizing the 10th edition of the Summer Course on Ethics in Dementia Care (Leuven, Belgium, 2-5 July 2024).

The objective of the course is to foster exchanges on foundational, clinical-ethical and organizational-ethical approaches to dementia care practices. During the Course, national and international experts will give presentations on various ethical topics in the domain of dementia care. There will be time for intensive discussions. The language of instruction will be English.

The Course is of interest to participants from diverse professional backgrounds, such as medicine, nursing, psychology, social work, gerontology, health care administration, philosophy and theology, and to PhD students undertaking courses of study in these areas. Aging & Social Change: Fourteenth Interdisciplinary Conference is a forum for discussion of challenges and opportunities for a rapidly growing segment of the population worldwide. The process of aging is a concern for individuals, families, communities, and nations. The social context of aging provides a rich background for community dialogue on this, one of the critical questions of our time. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries.

„Vernetzt versorgen - Primärversorgungszentren, Praxisnetzwerke und interprofessionelle Zusammenarbeit“ lautet der Titel der Dreiländertagung, die von 26. bis 27. Sept. 2024 in Linz in den Räumlichkeiten der Med. Fakultät sowie am Med Campus VI des Kepler Universitätsklinikums stattfinden wird.

Eine vernetzte Versorgung stärkt die Gesundheitssysteme, erhöht die Zufriedenheit der beteiligten Personen sowie die Akzeptanz der Versorgung und führt zu verbesserten Ergebnissen in der Gesundheitsversorgung.

Wir laden Sie herzlich ein, sich mit Beiträgen in Form eines Vortrages oder eines Posters an der Dreiländertagung in Linz zu beteiligen.

Am Mittwoch, dem 25. September 2024, findet eine Pre-Conference für Bachelor-Studierende aller Gesundheitsberufe statt. Beginn ist um 13:00 Uhr.

Im Rahmen dieser Pre-Conference sollen unter anderem Bachelorarbeiten als Poster präsentiert werden. Wir suchen daher engagierte Absolvent*innen von Gesundheitsstudiengängen, die ihre Bachelorarbeit im Jahr 2023 oder 2024 abgeschlossen haben und ihre Arbeit auf unserer Tagung als Poster präsentieren möchten.

The North America Conference on Integrated Care (NACIC24) co-hosted with the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC), IFIC Canada, the North America Centre for Integrated Care and the International Journal of Integrated Care (IJIC) and the Health System Performance Network at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto will take place in the Westin Calgary, Canada from 15-17 October 2024. 

With the overarching theme ‘Creating Health and Wellbeing through Integrated Care’, the conference will bring together leaders, researchers, clinicians, managers, community representatives, patients and caregivers from around the world who are engaged in the design and delivery of integrated health and care. The conference is kindly supported by our premier partners Health Standards Organization and Accreditation Canada. 

The conference will be organised around three core themes, 1) Human-level transformation for collective impact 2) Community-enabled population health and wellbeing and 3) Integrated teams and systems: navigating complexity and change. Each theme demonstrates components of IFIC 9 Pillars of Integrated care.

There are also three cross-cutting priorities that are central to the NACIC24 conference. The areas include 1) health equity 2) person and community centered partnership and 3) evaluation. These areas are pivotal to research and practice to advance integrated care and population health. Rather than denote as an individual conference theme, these priorities cut across and are embedded within each of the core themes. Further the first two priority areas of health equity and patient and caregiver partnership will be explicitly considered within the program planning and abstract review and selection process.

The International Scientific Committee (ICS), is now seeking abstracts of good practice in research, policy, practice and education from around the world. This is expected to be a competitive process so presenters are asked to take time in understanding the guidelines and to follow the process carefully. We are particularly keen to hear from our colleagues across Canada to celebrate the great achievements that have been made in progressing people-centred integrated care across the region. 
 

NACIC24 is co-designed with patients and caregivers and achieves Patients Includeddesignation. Special consideration is given to papers that demonstrate active people involvement and engagement in either or all of design, implementation and evaluation. Patient and caregivers attend the conference for free, but we cannot cover accommodation and travel costs. We encourage papers from patient and caregivers, but also suggest that health and care researchers and practitioners should encourage patient and caregiver partners to co-present where appropriate and fund travel and accommodation costs if possible.

Wie wirkt sich die Digitalisierung und der Einsatz von Algorithmen im Gesundheitsbereich auf den Umgang mit Patienten aus? Was macht die Identität der Heilberufe aus - und welchen Einfluss hat die Digitalisierung auf das Selbstverständnis von Medizin und Pflege? Chancen, Herausforderungen und ethische Fragen der Digitalisierung und des Einsatzes von KI im Gesundheitswesen sind Thema des diesjährigen interdisziplinären IMABE-Symposiums am 8. November 2024 in Wien.

Bessere Diagnosen, personalisierte Therapien, Pflegeroboter und ferngesteuerte Operationen: Digitalisierung und Künstliche Intelligenz gelten heute als Schlüssel zur Lösung (fast) aller Probleme im Gesundheitswesen. Gleichzeitig stellen sich zahlreiche Fragen für den klinischen und pflegerischen Alltag: Wer sorgt dafür, dass in Gesundheitsberufen Tätige die nötige Kompetenz erwerben, um mit einer teils undurchsichtigen „Datamania" richtig umzugehen? Was tut Digitalisierung mit dem Gesundheitpersonal in der täglichen Betreuung ihrer Patienten? Behandeln wir am Ende nur noch Befunde? Oder unterstützt KI eine bessere Versorgung und ermöglicht dank neuer Effizienz sogar mehr Zeit für Patienten?

Unser Ziel ist es sicherzustellen, dass der Mensch im Zentrum von Medizin und Pflege bleibt. Aber wie können wir das erreichen? Empathie, Gespräche und die vertrauensvolle Begegnung zwischen Patienten, Angehörigen und den in Gesundheitsberufen Tätigen sind der Schlüssel zu einer menschlichen Medizin und Pflege. Worin kann KI unterstützen – und worin ist der Mensch unersetzbar? 

Mediziner, Pflegewissenschaftler und Ethiker werden dabei folgende Themen beleuchten:

1. Veränderungen in der Patientenkommunikation: Wie beeinflusst die Digitalisierung die Interaktion zwischen Patienten und medizinischem Personal? Welche Chancen bieten sich für eine verbesserte Kommunikation und welche Risiken müssen berücksichtigt werden?
    
2. Menschlichkeit bewahren: Trotz des Einsatzes von Technologie ist es unerlässlich, die menschliche Seite der Gesundheitsversorgung zu bewahren. Wie können wir sicherstellen, dass Empathie, Mitgefühl und individuelle Betreuung gestärkt werden und nicht verloren gehen?
    
3. Potenziale und Herausforderungen von KI: Künstliche Intelligenz bietet enorme Möglichkeiten für Medizin und Pflege, von der Diagnoseunterstützung bis zur personalisierten Behandlung. Doch wie können wir sicherstellen, dass KI verantwortungsvoll eingesetzt wird und die Menschen unterstützt anstatt sie zu ersetzen?
    
4. Ethik und Verantwortung: Der Einsatz von Technologie wirft eine Vielzahl ethischer Fragen auf. Wie gehen wir mit Datenschutz, Autonomie und Gerechtigkeit um? Welche Grundsätze sollten bei der Entwicklung und Anwendung von KI gelten, um die Rechte und Bedürfnisse der Patienten zu schützen? 

Gemeinsam möchten wir mit Top-Experten Antworten finden und Lösungen entwickeln, um sicherzustellen, dass der Mensch auch in einer digitalisierten Welt im Mittelpunkt der Gesundheitsversorgung steht.
